How to choose a LED display?
A complete LED display system mainly includes control computer, control cards and LED display panels. While LED, driver IC, power supply on the LED panels and the panel design itself are the key issues that decide the quality of an LED display. Following is a brief introduction of these 3 parts:
LED
There are tens of thousands of LEDs on an LED display working as light emitting unit, the core of an LED is the chip sealed inside an epoxy resin coat, upon which the brightness and the color of an LED is decided. Poor quality LEDs has the problems of short lifespan, quick brightness recession, bad brightness consistency and bad color uniformity. It is better for us to have some knowledge of the LED chip suppliers and LED packaging company in advance and also ask supplier to provide the approval documents or certificates if necessary. The popular brand of LED chips includes Nichia, Cree, Epistar, Opto, Silan etc.
PCB and Driver Units
PCB design has great effects on the heat dissipation function and lifespan of an LED display. Good PCB design especially the evenness of heat dissipation, the EMI/EMC etc, are all key issues need to be considered. Besides, reliable driver IC provide guarantee for the LED displays.
Power Supply
Power supply feeds power to all the electronic components, it is important to make sure the power supply is from a reliable source and security certified. For cost consideration, some LED display factories reduce the power supply quantity from their original design, in this case, each power supply has to work in their full load to meet the LED display’s power consumption, which is no good for LED display’s regular working.
Cabinet Design
Cabinet not only provide protection for the circuit and LED module, but also works as the structure where almost all parts and components are attached to. Cabinet protects the screen from erosion of water and dust. As LED is a heat-sensitive device, good cabinet design must find a solution for ventilation.
In addition to the above mentioned items, module mask, silicon gel, wires and cables etc also play an important role in a good quality LED display system. Outdoor LED display module covers has the function of protect LEDs, anti-reflection, dust-proof, UV resistance etc, low quality module cover has poor performance on these functions and even has deformation. Low quality silicon gel is easy to have aging phenomenon, losing its protection function for LEDs and circuit.
